HENRI-GEORGE CLOUZOT'S INFERNO

AFTER THE NEW WAVE DIRECTOR'S SUCESS BEGAN TO OVERSHADDOW CLOUZOT'S, HE SET OUT TO BEAT THEM AT THEIR OWN GAME- TO MAKE THE 'ULTIMATE AUTEUR FILM'. L'INFERNO WAS THE STORY OF A MAN CONSUMED BY JELOUSLY, SELF INDULGED WITH A DISTORTED PERCEPTION OF REALITY. CLOUZOT ADOPTED A KIND OF 'METHOD DIRECTING' IT SEAMS AND BECAME SO EMERSED IN THE MAKING OF THE FILM- THINK 8 1/2- THAT HE EXHAUSTED HIS CAST AND CREW (SUPPOSIDLY SHOOTING SOME SCENES UP TO 70 OR 80 TIMES WITH DIFFERENT FILTERS AND EFFECTS) AND HAD A HEART ATTACK. SHOOTING ENDED, OBVIOUSLY.

FILM HISTORY AND ACHIVIST, SERGE BROMBERG AND RUZANDRA MEDREA, WHO I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, TOOK ALL THIS CRAZY FOOTAGE AND INTERVIEWED THE PEOPLE INVOLVED AND MADE SOME KIND OF TRIP FILM MEETS DOCUMENTARY AND IT'S THE MOST EXCITING THING THAT'S HAPPENED TO CINEMA IN MY LIFETIME.

OUT NOW OR SOON DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE.
