Louise Bourgeois died last Monday. Renown for her monstrous babies that made you feel the doors of Huntingdon Life Science had been torn open and Lovecraftian arachnids were on the prowl for something larger than moths and butterflies.
Every interview you find, the same questions are asked ‘Do these spiders represent your dead mother?’ ... ‘Yes’ ‘Do you agree that your works are feminist and feminism has come so far... still has so far to go?’ ... ‘yesyesyes’ blah blah blah. I’d like to ask her why she didn’t make colossal crabs because of her slutty, mad and angry dad.
Anyway her Femme Maison series is pretty fine; go have a look at Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol. They’re showing sixty of her drawings till July 4th.
